Connal’s Hits from the Bar!

We’re quickly approaching our 1 year anniversary since we opened the doors to our beautifully renovated Victorian pub & boutique hotel here in the heart of Wandsworth Town.

Since welcoming customers back into our magnificent bar, we’ve loved hearing what your tipple of choice is – whether it’s a classic Youngs Original, velvety glass of Chocolate Block red wine, or an ocean saving Plymouth Gin & Tonic.

We caught up with Wandsworth’s favourite Landlord (and self professed King of Karaoke) to hear what his best-loved picks are from the our pub bar. He is here to tell us what he is drinking when he is not belting out a banger – over to you Connal!

Time of Your Life

One of the best things about working in hospitality for me, is getting to be a part of creating wonderful experiences for the families and friends who walk through the doors of my establishment.

Pubs are so much more than just places we go to eat or have a few beers – they were and still are the centre of communities and I’ve always believed that a pub, and an incredible team, have the ability to turn a mostly ordinary building into an arena of cherished memories.

Red, Red Wine

An indulgent, slowly enjoyed Sunday roast with my family or closest friends followed by a nostalgic, proper pub pudding and a few bottles of red is my favourite way to spend a Sunday off. We have the joy here at the Spread Eagle, Wandsworth of recommending the perfect wine pairing and nothing beats a bottle of Bodega Norton Finca La Colonia Coleccion Malbec. Produced in Argentina, this red is a jammy, complex wine with the perfect amount of spice to its palette.

Whiskey in the Jar

There’s a reason that anyone drinking a whiskey automatically becomes the most sophisticated person in the pub. In a cut glass whiskey tumbler whilst propped up against our original Victorian curved bar sharing a yarn or two – it’s the perfect tipple to match the majestic bar here.

Whilst the classics are a classic for a reason, I’d suggest trying something a little bit different such as Hibiki, a beautiful whiskey from Japan which has a honey- like sweetness to it. With subtle floral and sandalwood aromas, it’s fast becoming one of our most loved amongst our regular whiskey heroes.

Drunk in Love

If you’re heading to the bar, mine’s an Estrella, cheers! I’ve got twenty five taps on draft here, but Estrella and I have a long love affair stretching back over the years and like all great love stories, I think this one will last a lifetime.

Brewed in Barcelona, you can normally find me chatting with everyone at the bar in the winter, or sitting outside in Wandsworth’s best kept secret garden, The Courtyard right here at the Spread Eagle. Next time you’re in Wandsworth, pop in and join me for a pint – I’ll be the best looking guy with an Estrella in hand. (And if you tell me that, the round’s on me!)

With Dry January ended and most of us slowly stepping over the threshold back into our favourite drinking spots, make sure to join Connal and the team at the bar and try out a much loved or brand new tipple!
